3/19/2019 Dellin Betances, NYY, P
Betances has inflammation in his right shoulder and will start the regular season on the injured list. New York general manager Brian Cashman said an MRI was done on Betances on Tuesday after the 6-8, 265-pound right-hander continued to lack velocity in his fastball.

Analysis: Betances, who normally reached the upper 90s, has topped at 92 or 93 mph throughout spring training. Betances said he will not throw for three to five days, but doesn't think it's a long-term issue.
3/19/2019 Dustin Pedroia, Bos, 2B
Pedroia will start the season on the injured list.

Analysis: The 2008 AL MVP is still recovering from left knee surgery. He was limited to just three games last season and 105 in 2017.
3/18/2019 Alex Wood, Cin, P
The Cincinnati Reds expect left-hander Alex Wood to open the season on the disabled list as he recovers from a sore back that has limited him during spring training.

Analysis: Wood was part of the trade that brought outfielders Yasiel Puig and Matt Kemp to Cincinnati from the Dodgers. He made one spring training start before his back tightened, and he had a setback when he resumed throwing last week.
3/18/2019 A.J. Minter, Atl, P
Minter is experiencing left shoulder soreness and is expected to miss the first week of the season.

Analysis: Minter has some fantasy value out of the bullpen. He excelled when Arodys Vizcaino went down last season, converting 15-of-17 save opportunities.
3/17/2019 Aaron Hicks, NYY, CF
Hicks had a second cortisone shot for his ailing back and will not be ready for opening day.

Analysis: Hicks was hurt while taking batting practice on March 1. New York manager Aaron Boone didn't rule out Hicks returning during the second week of the season. The Yankees signed Hicks to a seven-year, $70 million deal last month after he set career highs with 27 home runs and 79 RBIs in 137 games in 2018.
3/16/2019 Bryce Harper, Phi, RF
Harper was out of the Philadelphia Phillies lineup for Saturday's game against the Houston Astros, one day after sustaining a bruised right ankle when hit by a pitch. Manager Gabe Kapler says he has no concerns about Harper being ready for opening day on March 28 against the Atlanta Braves. X-rays were negative and Harper is listed as day to day.

Analysis: The slugging outfielder clutched his ankle and stayed on the ground for a few moments. Harper was checked by a trainer, limped toward the dugout with assistance and hobbled toward the clubhouse.
3/15/2019 J.D. Martinez, Bos, RF
Martinez was back in the lineup, two days after being scratched because of back tightness. Martinez went 1 for 3 and played five innings in right field as the Red Sox lost 14-1 to the New York Yankees on Friday. He singled to shallow right and hit a pair of grounders.

Analysis: Martinez is hitting just .105 (2 for 19) with no homers in seven games. He failed to homer in 49 plate appearances during spring training last year, then went deep 43 times during the regular season. The home run total was the most by Red Sox player in his first season with the club.
3/14/2019 Michael Fulmer, Det, P
The Tigers said Tuesday on Twitter that surgery to reconstruct the ulnar collateral ligament in Fulmer's elbow has been recommended following an MRI exam and a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews.

Analysis: Fulmer, who experienced elbow soreness during a recent bullpen session, will seek a third opinion. Fulmer won AL Rookie of the Year honors in 2016 but has struggled to return to that form. He was 3-12 with a 4.69 ERA last year, his season cut short in mid-September because of knee problems.
3/12/2019 Pedro Strop, ChC, P
Strop, who was projected to fill in as closer for Brandon Morrow, has been sidelined this spring because of a mild right hamstring strain. He threw a bullpen Tuesday for the first time since he was injured.

Analysis: If Strop isn't available, the Cubs' closer options include Steve Cishek, Carl Edwards Jr., Brandon Kintzler and Brian Duensing.
3/11/2019 Kyle Seager, Sea, 3B
Mariners third baseman Kyle Seager is out 6-8 weeks due to surgery to repair an injured tendon on his left hand. The 2014 All-Star and Gold Glove Award winner was injured diving for a hard groundball Friday night during a spring training game against the Chicago Cubs.

Analysis: The slimmed-down 31-year-old is hoping for a bounce-back season after hitting a career-worst .221 with 22 homers and a .673 OPS last season. He has a .318 batting average in nine spring training games.
3/11/2019 Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Tor, 3B
Guerrero will miss the next three weeks because of a strained left oblique.

Analysis: The estimated three weeks of recovery would include the rest of the Grapefruit League schedule, the Blue Jays' exhibition series against the Milwaukee Brewers in Montreal - where Guerrero was born - and opening day of the regular season. It had not been determined before the injury where Guerrero would start the season. The son of Hall of Famer Vladimir Guerrero hit a combined .381 with 20 home runs and 78 RBIs in four levels of the minors last year.
3/7/2019 Jeremy Jeffress, Mil, P
Brewers manager Craig Counsell said Jeffress will be withheld from throwing this week as he works to strengthen his sore right shoulder.

Analysis: Counsell added that he thinks Jeffress can be ready for opening day but admits he'll be "cutting it close." Either way, Jeffress is likely to be behind Corey Knebel in Milwaukee's pecking order for saves for at least the early part of the season.
3/6/2019 CC Sabathia, NYY, P
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Sabathia, who had a heart stent inserted in December and has a pending five-game suspension, could miss two or three starts in April.

Analysis: Sabathia, who said he will retire after this season, went 9-7 with a 3.65 ERA in 29 starts in 2018.
3/6/2019 Zack Cozart, LAA, SS
Cozart will miss a few weeks due to a Grade 1 strain in his left calf.

Analysis: This could prevent Cozart from being available for opening day March 28 in Oakland. A free agent last offseason, Cozart left the Reds to sign a $38 million, three-year contract with the Angels and agreed to switch positions from shortstop to third base. He played in just 58 games in 2018 before having season-ending shoulder surgery. Cozart hit .219 with five homers and 18 RBIs.
3/5/2019 Luis Severino, NYY, P
Severino will miss all of April because of right shoulder inflammation.

Analysis: Severino had been scheduled to start on opening day on March 28 but was scratched from his first planned spring training appearance on March 5. He felt discomfort after throwing his first slider in a pregame bullpen session. Severino is a two-time All-Star who is 41-25 with a 3.51 ERA. He went 19-8 with a 3.39 ERA last year but lost five of his last 11 decisions.
3/4/2019 Collin McHugh, Hou, P
McHugh is struggling through some lower back soreness after he was able to go just one inning in his spring debut Wednesday against Washington.

Analysis: McHugh is downplaying the issue, but keep an eye on this situation.
3/4/2019 Lance McCullers Jr., Hou, P
McCullers will miss the entire 2019 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in November.

Analysis: The 25-year-old right-hander has a 3.67 ERA and 10.1 K/9 in his career.
3/4/2019 Yadier Molina, StL, C
Molina (knee) is slated to catch his first spring training game on March 14, according to Cardinals manager Mike Shildt.

Analysis: Molina, who underwent a knee scope in December, has seen action as a designated hitter and is on track to be ready for the start of the regular season.
3/4/2019 Jordan Montgomery, NYY, P
Montgomery, recovering from last June's Tommy John surgery, has progressed to throwing on flat ground.

Analysis: Montgomery still won't be an option for the Yankees until likely July, but it does appear his rehab is on schedule. The left-hander is 11-7 with a 3.84 ERA in 35 career major league starts.
3/4/2019 Brandon Morrow, ChC, P
Morrow threw 20 pitches in a bullpen session Monday, his first time off the mound this spring. He was limited to 35 games last season with the Cubs and did not pitch past July 15. He underwent a debridement on his right elbow in November. Morrow was expected to miss the first month of the season.

Analysis: ''It's a big step to get back up and off the slope,'' Morrow said Tuesday. ''To take that step, everything was good. There's nothing to report other than I felt great. It was just like a normal bullpen. I felt in rhythm mechanically after a few pitches. It was all good.''
