Huddersfield Town-Southampton Preview

Huddersfield Town's two-season stay in the Premier League is about to end.

The visiting Terriers play their final top-flight match before heading back down to the Championship on Sunday against Southampton.

Huddersfield (3-6-28) would like nothing more than to generate a winning result in its final Premier League contest before relegation. However, the Terriers are 0-1-8 since beating Wolverhampton 1-0 on Feb. 26.

The good news is that the draw came against Manchester United, 1-1 last Sunday as Isaac Mbenza's first goal with The Town equalised the scoreline in the 60th minute. That being said, Huddersfield's 15 points are still by far the lowest in the league, and have a new chairman in long-time fan Phil Hodgkinson ready to take over as the squad moves down a rank.

"It was important (last weekend) that we showed our face and that we finally got a result," defender Chris Lowe told Huddersfield's official website. "We are just happy that we gave something back (last Sunday). For all of us it was important, for us players and the head coach as well."

Though drawing an elite side like Man United, regardless how much disarray that squad might be harbouring at the moment, it still seems like a long shot for Huddersfield to manage a victory Sunday. They lost 3-1 at home to Southampton on Dec. 22.

Philip Billing had the lone goal in the 58th minute for the Terriers, whilst Nathan Redmond recorded a goal with an assist for the Saints in that contest.

Southampton (9-11-17) currently sit 16th in the table but could move up a spot when Sunday's action is complete. However, the Saints are 0-2-2 since beating Wolverhampton on April 13.

They fell 3-0 at West Ham United last weekend and desperately want to end the season with a victory in front of the home supporters.

"The last few weeks were very intense for us as a team," manager Ralph Hasenhuttl told Southampton's official website. "We have one more game at home now, where we want to play differently from how we did against West Ham. We want to show our fans that we can finish with a good win for them.

"The target is to end in the best way possible. Getting the energy back and mentally being ready to finish the season with a good win. It would be a good ending to this season if we can do that against Huddersfield."

The Saints are 3-1-1 in their last five home contests, with the lone defeat during that stretch coming against Liverpool.
